PDF to Markdown converts a PDF file into clean Markdown right in your browser. Drop in a research paper, a specification, or a legacy document and get readable headings, paragraphs, and text blocks you can paste into a notes app, a wiki, or an LLM context window.
The conversion runs entirely client-side using PDF.js — your file is never uploaded to a server and never leaves your device. There's no account, no signup, and no file-size limit imposed by us.
The converter detects heading sizes from the PDF's font metrics and emits standard Markdown headings, lists, and paragraphs. Complex layouts like multi-column pages and image-heavy PDFs are extracted as text; for pixel-perfect fidelity, keep the original file.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is processed entirely in your browser using PDF.js. Nothing is uploaded, and the file never leaves your device.
Does it convert tables, images, and scanned PDFs?
It extracts text and headings, including table text where it is selectable. Scanned PDFs without a text layer contain no extractable text, and images are not embedded in the Markdown output.
Is there a file size limit?
No server-side limit exists because nothing is uploaded — practical limits depend only on your browser's memory.
Is PDF to Markdown free?
Yes. The tool is free, runs locally in your browser, and requires no account or signup.
